I first came a across cacao as a child in South America.  It was something we drank with family and drove two hours to experience it.  I always felt it relaxed me and I would sleep all the way home in the car.  It was the yummiest sleep I’ve ever experienced, almost like when you’re under anaesthetic 😊

Raw cacao has been used for centuries to heal the mental, physical and spiritual body. It is a natural and ancient plant medicine, with a high concentration of vitamins, minerals and is a powerful antioxidant. Cacao also increases blood flow (oxygen and nutrients) to the brain as well as induces the release of feel-good endorphins. It enhances the immune system and lowers cholesterol and blood pressure.

Cacao is often used to change your perspective, enabling you to recognize and let go of repeated patterns or bad habits, release energetic blockages and what no longer serves you. Naturally packed with caffeine, cacao gives you a burst of energy that helps you focus and improve your memory and is said to be a big creativity enhancer and facilitator of deep inner meditation and connections.

Cacao ceremonies are a type of shamanic healing – which is one of the oldest holistic healing practices used by indigenous cultures all over the world. These types of healing ceremonies work with rebalancing energies in the body to regain health. However, unlike other shamanic experiences, drinking cacao will not make you hallucinate or give you some sort of ‘out-of-body’ psychedelic experience. Cacao instead, is used to gently touch your heart and to guide you into an inner journey deep into the emotional centre of our body – our heart chakra.

Cacao is found in a large yellowish, red, green or sometimes brown pod that grows on trees in Central and South America. Inside the pods you’ll find small cacao beans wrapped in a white pith similar to a Mandarin orange.

It has been used by locals for thousands of years! South American civilizations have been said to have traded it and use it as currency and the Mayans and Aztecs were known to have sipped it for its medicinal benefits. Safe to say, for centuries civilization has had our chocolate game on lock down.

www.Cleanherbals.com.au now sells raw cacao. Its organic and imported from Peru and blessed by the Mayans.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Cacao is powerful medicine. Due to the current constant availability of chocolate, one may underestimate Cacao's power. Most chocolate contains a small percentage of industrially processed Cacao. Ceremonial Cacao is made of the whole bean and is much more potent. Cacao has psychoactive but no psychedelic properties. Compared to other medicinal plants, Cacao opens the layers of consciousness in a gentle, loving way and ties together what may have been disconnected; on a physical, emotional or spiritual level. One may then remember something from the past that they are (not) ready for. Some other people expect to 'have a trip' and over-consume.

Ceremonial doses of Cacao are not recommended for somebody who is taking antidepressants (Cacao contains MAO inhibitors), has a serious heart condition, has very high blood pressure or suffers epilepsy. Please speak to your doctor if you consider taking ceremonial doses of Cacao in any of these cases. Raw Cacao contains Histamine. Pregnant women should take smaller amounts. Dogs and animals should not be given raw chocolate, as they lack the enzyme to metabolize theobromine (which can be fatal).

Directions:

add 25gm (two hearts ) to one cup of hot water, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil or cacao butter.  Blend in a heat safe blender for best results as natural separation occurs with unprocessed cacao.  You can also add cayenne pepper, your favourite sweener, cinnamon, your favourite milk or vanilla extracts.

* May contain nuts*

This needs TGA approval for use and requires a prescription from a professionally trained and qualified Herbalist . We can do this through Infinite Health Practice, prescribe tonic herbs but not on this website. Please note that The Therapeutic Goods Administration(TGA) clearly states that: “Generally a product that is swallowed will be either one form of a therapeutic good (a medicine) or a food. Often, claims made about a product or the appearance of the product may suggest that it is a therapeutic good. However, the fact that health claims are made about a product does not automatically make it a therapeutic good.” Therefore, all teas made by Cleanherbals® are deemed a food with therapeutic benefits and are not medicine nor required to be registered with the TGA.
